It is alleged that the shootout between the police and armed men resulted in the death of three thugs, two were injured, while the sixth man was arrested at the scene.

This comes after members from the Tactical Response Team (TRT) operationalised intelligence information and intercepted a suspicious vehicle at a gravel road between Nkondlo and Clarkebery near Mhlophekazi Administrative Area in Ngcobo. The injured suspects are currently in hospital under police guard.

Police also confiscated two unlicensed firearms and ammunition. The three men, aged between 35 and 52, will be charged for crimes ranging from murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and are due to appear in court soon.  No police officers were injured during the incident.

The District Commissioner, Major General Rudolph Adolph, praised the members for their swift action.  "There is a possibility that these men were operating as iinkabi (hired murderers), and your actions possibly saved a life," added Maj Gen Adolph.
