A police killer has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Limpopo High Court in Thohoyandou in Limpopo province

 According to a police report Nyadzani Morgan Mavhuso (23) , was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Limpopo High Court  in Thohoyandou for the murder of Warrant Officer Mbulaheni Mulanduli (61).

 Mavhuso was reportedly arrested on charges of robbery and kidnapping of Mutale.  He allegedly overpowered the Warrant Officer, stabbed him several times and took away  the safe keys.  Mavhuso proceeded to let himself out of the cell and stole money from the safe without anyone noticing.

 The body of the slain police officer was later found by his colleagues conducting a routine check.  A murder case was then opened for investigation by the Thohoyandou-based Serious Organized Crime Investigation unit.  Mavhuso was arrested two days later after an extensive investigation.  The accused’s bail was successfully refused and he has since attended court appearances behind bars until his conviction and sentence.

  Yesterday, the accused, Mavhuso was sentenced as follows:

  Count 1: Murder - Life imprisonment
  Count 2: Robbery - 15 years in prison
  Count 3: Rape - 15 years in prison
  Count 4: Kidnapping – five years in prison
  Count 5: Kidnapping - Not Guilty
  Count 6: Breach of Protection order – three years imprisonment
  Count 7: Escape from legal custody - five years’ .
  Count 8: Burglary - seven years’.
  It was further ordered that the sentences imposed on Counts 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 should run concurrently with the sentence on Count 1.

The accused shall serve an effective sentence of imprisonment for life.  The accused was also informed that he is not eligible to possess or possess a firearm in terms of section 103 of the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000.

 The Provincial Head in Limpopo, Major General Gops Govender welcomed the convicts and commended both the investigation as well as the prosecution for the good work done in ensuring that another police killer spends the rest of his life behind bars.
