Communication officer of Vosloorus SAPS warns motorists about hijackers.

The communication officer of Vosloorus SAPS, Constable Avril Nlhapo advises motorists to be cautious when they are travelling around in Vosloorus because hijackers are targeting the area. 

According to her most hijackers are preying on lovers who park their cars on the street at night, and even trucks that are travelling on the N3 road just on the out skirt of the Vosloorus Township.

She said motorists should practice the following safety tips to evade hijackings: “They shouldn’t pick up strangers on the side of the road because those people are likely to be syndicates of an organised hijacking. Motorists should avoid stopping on the side of the road to relieve themselves, they should rather go to the nearest petrol station or police station.

“Car owners should always ensure that their cars are serviced to avoid breakdowns, because breakdowns are likely to put them in a hijacking situation, as a motorist you must always monitor your surroundings, check the vehicles that are around you, if you see anything suspicious try to drive to a safe place.

“The most important tip of the day is that as a person who is using a car, if you are travelling at night, just slow down if you are approaching a red traffic light, then just wait for it to be green so you can pass, don’t stop at any traffic lights.

“Avoid travelling late at night or at dawn in an unfamiliar territory. The Vosloorus SAPS has warned the Vosloorus community about these series of hijackings, but it seems like people in Vosloorus are not heeding to the warning, however we are not giving up on them as we are alerting them even today and our crime stop number is 08600 10111/0827594809,” Nhlapo shared.

She elaborated further saying that she is appealing to community members to come forward with any information about the hijackers, so they can apprehend them as the Vosloorus SAPS.
