According to the ZiMoja, the family of a 16-year-old boy who drowned while in Durban to attend the African National Congress (ANC) election manifesto launch at Moses Mabhida Stadium says, they have no regrets about taking him to the event, Sfundo Shezi from Welbedach, outside Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, attended the event with his father Lucas Shezi but they traveled on different buses.
Sfundo was a grade 10 student at Welbedene Secondary School. He drowned before president Cyril Ramaphosa could deliver his speech after he and several friends decided to go swimming at the beach.
His father was alerted about incident by friends after they failed to help him out of the water. Shezi told ZiMoja that he was informed in the afternoon that his son had been drowned at Durban South Beach and reported the matter the same day and the search for his body resumed.
The youth's body was allegedly recovered on Monday evening after two days of searches by search and rescue teams.
