An effort to get guns off the streets of the Western Cape produced success.

Members of the Overberg Anti-Gang Unit received information about firearms at a location in Hermanus and followed up with a house search. When members searched one of the bags in the room they found two loaded 9mm handguns. The 31-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of firearms and unlicensed ammunition. He will appear in Hermanus Magistrates’ court once charged.

In an unrelated intervention members of Malmesbury police received information from Crime Intelligence about a firearm stored at a location in Basilie Street, Wesbank, and followed up with an operation. Members searched the designated area and found a gun hidden under the bed. An adult male was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect will appear at Malmesbury Magistrates’ court once charged.
